Join us for some STEAM-tastic fun as we engineer our way around the Globe! We’ll build the Eiffel Tower in Paris, create a bobsled for Penguins in Antarctica, design a Safari Route in Africa, make a playground for Monkeys in India, build bridges in Australia, and develop a water pipeline in Egypt…all from the comfort and safety of the classroom!

Challenge Island uses STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) to engage children in solving real-world challenges all from the comfort of the classroom…while having A LOT OF FUN!

Our activities are project-based (each lesson involves building/creating to solve a “challenge”). Our STEAM-TEAM peer groups encourage peer collaboration and Social Emotional Learning (SEL)!

Course cost is inclusive all all supplies/materials and instruction.

Afternoon LECC kindergarteners attending the class will need permission to walk from their classroom after school to the cafeteria. You may send a note with your child or email the office secretaries. An adult will be in the cafeteria to supervise until the class begins. Those children who attend the morning kindergarten session will need transportation to the cooking class. You may drop off your child at the side cafeteria door #6 any time after 3:00. After class pick up will also be at this door. Not the front door. Please let us know if your child has any allergies. Thank you

They’ll travel from the sands of the Sahara to the peaks of the Himalayas, investigating complex creatures as they build models of each animal, focusing-in on the biological diversity that makes them special. Come experience the outdoors with Loveland Learning Garden as we explore our fall schoolyard garden and nature trail. Each week will offer a different hands-on activity where we will investigate and discover what’s happening in nature. Go on a trail hike, search for a spider web, see the end of the plant life cycle, collect seeds, find and plant an acorn, create with natural materials, use a magnifying glass to search for insects, observe changes in the fall forest and more!

This class includes the introduction to the basic use of the pottery wheel as well as basic hand-building techniques. This is a great opportunity for students to receive hands on experience. Classes on the pottery wheel emphasize technical, personal and individual development for future abilities in the art world. Students will each complete a small pot on the pottery wheel and at least one other item using hand-building techniques. All artwork will be glazed by the student and fired. All supplies are included.

By learning all about themselves, students are able to form conversational sentences and will understand what others may ask them in Spanish. This course is designed for younger students who are new to the Spanish language due to it targeting building basic conversations and vocabulary about themselves.
Students will be expected (if accessible) to bring a folder and a pencil to this course. This will allow them to safely and neatly hold on to what they will be learning about.

Sphero Coding and Programming: Learn to program robots using Sphero, a powerful rolling robot! We will also study the history of robotics and current developments in robotic technologies used in industry, health, and exploration.

Stitch and Sew Kidz- Enriching Kidz newest class! Taught by an expert!
This small class-size- 2 week hands-on class is geared for 2nd -4th graders that teaches them the basics of sewing. They will be creating fun, child friendly projects that teaches basic sewing stitches, cutting materials from a template, threading needles, tying knots, sewing buttons and how to correct mistakes. Kids love seeing their finished project! This class also teaches fine motor skills, spatial thinking and problem-solving skills

This class will introduce the skills and knowledge of volleyball. The students will be given the opportunity to see if they like the sport and will help prepare them for recreational and/or school volleyball. We use trainer volleyballs so the students are allowed to experience the sport without pain. Beach balls will also be used at times for fun skill building activities.
